Good article, though it's slightly wrong about passive 3D: It's correct that passive 3D tv's alternate each row of pixels so each eye gets 1920x540. It then says that with side-by-side 720p 3D you'll be getting only 640x360 per eye (half the horizontal res for the side-by-side, half the vertical because of the alternated rows in the TV), which is incorrect. It doesn't just cut the number of vertical pixels in half, because the TV doesn't suddenly change the number of pixels it has to display with. Instead it will sample the 640x720 image to the 1920x540 display resolution, so the horizontal resolution isn't 360, it's 720 sampled to 540.

Yeah, patents aren't supposed to just be a general description of a solution to a problem, but rather a specific manner of solving it. The whole patent system is completely fucked as far as high tech devices go right now though.

I'd say 1&2 are classic, 3 is terribad, and 4 is pretty bad as well.

I think the reason that the explanations seem contradictory is that different people do it for different reasons. Again, poor one BY YOUR STANDARDS. Your standards are not fact.

I think the idea of kickstarter is cool, though it's unlikely I'll ever give to any project on it (would totally give to Castle Story without hesitation though), however somebody at some point is going to try to cash in, eventually a highly funded project won't come to fruition, and like Thursday I'm interested to see what the fallout of that will be. The first one is pretty bad, but the second is good. Luckily the first has almost nothing to do with the second, so you can just skip straight to the sequel.

AvP:R was actually pretty good, which surprised the hell out of me.

I like Aliens better than Alien, but I think that's more a genre thing than anything about their quality.

Oh yeah, gas definitely has convenience going for it, I just meant end result of charcoal grilling is better. Usually for just a couple burgers or hotdogs I'll break out the George Foreman grill just for convenience's sake.

That does look cool, though the CGI in that fight with the dudes in white was pretty bad. On a related sentiment Saw this trailer the other day and was thinking "that looks like it could be pretty cool, then the title pops up and "fuck, I'm a tool."

I'd like it to just be a feature that devs couldn't disable... although now that I think about it maybe a limited-time disabling would be handy to avoid people posting spoilers. Maybe make it so you can't screenshot certain parts of the game before a certain amount of time after launch, like how Bungie did on their website with Halo pictures (though that didn't actually prevent you from doing it, it just blacked out the thumbnail and posted a spoiler warning across it so you had to actually click through to see the picture).

Poor investment by your standards (and mine, I would have to be REALLY excited about something to donate to a kickstarter for it), but if the thing you're looking to get out of it is just "I helped this game get made" then seems like a decent investment to me.

Yeah, I'll have to do some research on it. Actual 1:1 golf simulation would be cool, cause then I could work on my swing (which atm I can only hit the ball accurate to within about 160 degrees) in air conditioned comfort and without looking like an idiot on the driving range.

@Yant: Yeah, this is really more like something you'd tailgate with. If I end up using it much I probably will upgrade to a bigger one. *Edit* - Charcoal > gas for everything.

Yeah, Youtube integration is the coolest kind of social integration to me. Also the ability to take screencaps of any app would be fantastic (the Vita does this, right?). I hadn't even considered they might require 3D, that would be pretty great.
