We may have different terms for the word "bloat". If you're taking up RAM, but actually using it then it's not really bloat. If you're taking up RAM n more RAM n more and still doing the same stuff, there's a problem. It's like filling up the fridge with tons of food n fruit n all that, as opposed to just filling it up with a dozen bottles of water. You know other day I opened up Firefox FireFTP, once done close it up and then many hours later I'm in the task manager and who do I see but FF just sitting their nomming on 250megs. It's not open, it's not doing anything, still using up RAM.

Yeah that ^ This sentiment. Also loading up 44 pages of pictures in one go is not healthy. (Oh also the image per post limit, which is exactly their to stop the forum loading up umpteen images in one go)

It's pretty set in stone, the problem is devs mis-using them. Technical terms are becoming marketing terms. e.g Minecraft for example has only just hit beta as of yesterday, yet it became "beta" ages ago, same time as the price went up.
-
You don't have to say it's bullshit, just question it. You look a tad worse when you just accept it as verbatim due to either just being a "journalists" accepting all you're told as true, or looking like you ain't got much tech know-how. It's jsut rather depressing when a large chunk of "journalists" join in with it. You don't need to prove their "lying", just don't accept what is said as fact if it sounds off to you. What will make you look like a tool is the old "neiner neiner you're unemployed" line, but that's slightly unrelated (but it does seem game journalists like to throw out that ad hominem attack time to time)

http://gamejournos.com/post/11595707804/its-pre-alpha-code-im-reminded-by-the-attending So it starts as a "fucking kotaku" with Crecente been told the Skyrim preview sites played other day is "pre-alpha" n just accepting that. But then when you hit up and notice you've got folks from Ars Technica, Wired, and a bunch of other sites apparently all fine with it being "pre-alpha". "This is what bethesda have told us". Ars even made a whole article out of it defending it and saying that readers need to be "educated". For those kinda unsure on what I'm ranting on: pre-alpha: Absolute shitty n raw. It's to flesh out idea. Wouldn't' be surprised if it's just a case of modding Oblivion to try stuff out. Alpha: Getting the features put in, adding dragons, the levelling system, proper walking animations, duel-wielding spells. Beta: Shit is in that needs to be in. Now it's a case of getting rid of bugs. This is most likely the version the press played. Release candidate: This is where the game is hopefully at or beyond given it's like less than a month away. This version is as bug free as you're gonna get (as in casting a spell won't crash the console, this is a bethesda game after all) Gold: Version 1.0. This is the final compiled version of the game sent to printing n distribution. It's kinda disturbing the technical ineptitude of some writers.

CPU's are by default "PhysX compatible". They're just really really shit at it, so it's usually not a good idea. Nvidia bought Ageia/PhysX nearly 4 years ago, it's not like its exclusivity is an unknown factor (And before then you need a PPU, so an ATi user was still out of luck). ATi suck in the features dept with a bonus of being cheaper. Want CUDA n PhysX? Buy a Nvidia. Want weird graphical glitches? Buy an ATi
-
You'll probably find that without GTX is still a Nvidia card, just low end. ATi users can use PhysX, just not through a GPU, thus they better have one hell of a decent CPU to be on-par with a GPGPU.

Tesco have seemingly canned my Arkham City order. I've sent a message to them, hoping for a response at some point. Cos yeah I'll be a bit miffed if they've gone "Oh the release date changed, cancel all orders!". The other bugger is that part of the reason I have both Skyrim n Arkham City ordered through them was a pre-order two games offer. I now longer have two games pre-ordered so Skyrim has gone back up in price too :/

Yeah I'm not really understanding why Zenimax are so heavily pushing this. They've done what needed to be done, had the opportunity to settle out of court too if Notch is to be believed. Yet they're pushing so hard despite their marketing dept possibly screeching in their ear at the damage they're doing to the brand they're trying to protect. Thing is if they win it sets a dangerous precedent. Make a puzzle game involving the cunning use of reflective surfaces and called it "Mirrors", EA now owns your ass. (Heck make a puzzle platformer called Edge..) If only we had some lawyer, maybe one specializing in video games, who could maybe give us some insight into why Zenimax are carrying out this seemingly insane act.

They need to police a mark, which they've done just by stating they think their is confusion and getting in contact with Mojang about it. There's no requirement to go to court or owning a trademark would get very very expensive indeed. That's entirely on Zenimax' back, and it's entirely Zenimaxs interpretation that the trademark would cause confusion too, they've got to prove that. Also of note cos I've seen a few folks bring up USPTO n such: It's a European case with OHIM. It's why the court filings are in Swedish (it's taking place in Stokholm, same country as Mojang) (Also you put copyright instead of trademark. Different things)

https://twitter.com/#!/notch/statuses/126196998826242048 They won the interim injunction. Basically while the full legal preceding are yet to come, Zenimaz haven't managed to stop them using the Scrolls name in the meantime. Which is good for Mojang cos if they'd lost today even if they won the main stuff they wouldn't be able to use the name "Scrolls" in regards to their game from now until the games launch/when the court case happens.

Facility is an old map frozen and Molten Ruins is an old map heated up. Also high-rise is the hotel.

Helen Mirren throws a mean punch. Also is it me or are a chunk of these maps old? Just with major weather changes.

Also: http://www.photographyserved.com/Gallery/Your-beautiful-eyes/428809 Somewhat creepy.

Yeah except in all probability it will. You remember the whole "context aware fill", turns out it worked as shown. So I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt on this one. Not like they're charging a few grand a pop for this tech or anything. In further news: http://www.theage.co...1016-1lrm5.html Drugs that could extend life to 150.

So this is Adobes anti-blur tech. It may or may not be coming to Photoshop CS6. It's pretty damn cool.

Hopefully, the kids that love Seasame street need parents to log on to the site first, so the kids don't have to deal with that.

Holy-sheet an actual in-game trailer.

You mean remember that they were totally useless and that was the entire point? If the laws worked then he wouldn't have been able to write a series of short novels based upon them not working

Actually it'll have dedicated servers(can't store messages p2p) . What it suffers from is having multiple shards. Demon's Souls had 3. One for Japan ran by Sony, one for US ran by Atlus and one for Europe ran by Namcom Bandai. (for the versions that is, you can use a US version in europe and be on the US server). But it sounds like Dark Souls has much more than that. You'll probably find, as with all MMO like games, the servers will be consolidated as the game ages and loses players. They probably expected much more people to get Dark Souls than Demons Souls.

I have a feeling with the moon having phases, and it seeming like the lighting is being reworked on it too to match that, textures might not work on the moon like usual.

The Three Muskateers. So it wasn't helped too much by the fact I wanted to watch Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. It's all the usual camp and silly type stuff you get in Pirates of Caribbean and Sherlock Holmes. The cast was strange as hell. Dude from Inglorious Basterds, James Corden, Orlando Bloom, Milla Jovovich, Percy Jackson, Dexter Fletcher, a guy who turns out isn't Mickey Rourke. It's a real "okay let's pop on IMDB" type film (which is where you also learn a lot of these guys have been on similar films, mainly Clash of Titans, Inglorious Basterds, and Robin Hood. Oh and apart from Orlando Bloom (playing an English dude) and Jovovich (playing an un-nationed character, or at least nothing I remember being mentioned) all these characters are playing French people. Including Corden. I believe I said it looked like "Assassins Creed: The Movie" in the Trailer thread. The start is very much so. Especially with the Venetian setting. The rest not so much. The swords fight were pretty good, albeit the director liked to twiddle with the slow mo knob a lot in editing. Actually the editing is where it really falls apart. Especially with this whole "three days later" shit it throws up every now n then. We know geography, we know it didn't take the 2 second cut between scenes for him to end up in Paris. I did like the cuts from the kind of Total War like scenes of the battlefield of Europe with the pieces moving then it'd cut to the actual pieces on the board in live action very smoothly. There was a lot of moving people into the right places so that the plot can move forward and it doesn't done with too much elegance. The actors didn't seem to be giving it their all much either. I mean James Corden gets a free pass cos we all know he's shit anyway. But the rest didn't seem to put much gusto in it. Especially the Muskateers themselves. I always feel a film watches best when they actors are quite into it. Especially this type of film, they should seem like they're having fun. Oh and they set it up for a sequel so I guess we'll see more. It's a fun frollick but cliched to hell . The cast is weirdly mixed too, so it's worth it just for that.
