  1. Double Post as a friendly reminder that there is no new episode tomorrow. If you find yourself wanting, here's another funny GIF to tide you over.
  2. Aperture Combustible Lemon Mug Certainly would make the office feel a little more appealing with some classic Portal humor.
  3. Playing as a vorcha sentinel might be interesting, though I'm definitely going to be busy with other games this summer.
  4. It's so strange how I never noticed until I looked at my recording. I noticed it once during the demo, but I thought something must have glitched because the other times I played it I could have sworn it filled the entire screen. I can see why though as I've started another quest and it's essentially a gigantic pit. EDIT: (Man, been doing this quite often.) With the letterbox, it is 1280x720. My television tells me the dimensions depending on the games resolution. If it can go to 1080p (or 1080i) it'll go to 1920x1080. If it's only capable of 720p, the resolution on the television adjusts to 1280x720. As far as the actual dimension of what you see, well it's definitely 1280 wide. My Game Capture HD records whatever the output signal is, which is when I discovered the Wii's anamorphic widescreen. Anyway, the raw AVI is set at 1280x720.
  5. I'm curious about why the game is letterboxed though because it doesn't look like there's enough space on the bottom with my health, stamina, and X button. Though once I get use to my attacks I'll probably remove the face button HUD. EDIT: It's letterboxed on the 360 and PS3, and looking at the G4 review, the reviewer has the same suspicions as me. From the review: Editor's Note: One word of warning for owners of plasma TVs, though - Dragon's Dogma is letterboxed, meaning there are black bars at the top and bottom of the screen during gameplay. This was likely done to save screen real estate and improve performance, but if your TV is prone to burn-in or image retention, make sure you take the proper precautions.
  6. If you need more material, you know Extra Credits has got it covered. Game Addiction Pt. 1 My thoughts are similar to FDS's comment, especially with how the MMO genre tends to be developed in a manipulative manner. However, a game "addiction" is more of a compulsion, as you see in Extra Credis' videos on this subject. There's no biological component, but a psychological one because those who are drawn to certain games find something in them that fill a need or desire. Maybe it is social, like becoming part of a guild, or the concept of achievement/success even if it is in an imaginary reality.
  7. That's the way it was recorded. On the PS3 version, the highest resolution is 720p (most open world games are, so nothing surprising). I'm wondering if my Game Capture letterboxes 720p, or if the game is stretched in some way on HDTVs because it's never letterboxed when I play. I'll have to see to this... EDIT: lol, it has been letterboxed on my HDTV. I haven't noticed since it blended in with the black of the television. Eh, it's rather minor letterboxing if you ask me.
  8. So there's a more permanent spot for my video. Ask away if anything appears confusing, but I'll add some detail anyway. This was my first attempt, and you'll see that in two spots I almost failed the quest. As we're all aware, nighttime is very much not optimal for doing quests for traveling. I had done a few side quests before this, so I didn't exactly do myself any favors (though one side quest should pay off). As for the video itself, the raw footage is better, but I needed to cut some footage and make it more YouTube "friendly." Thus, the text doesn't look as sharp as it should, but this does the job.
  9. Alright, for anyone still on the fence about Dragon's Dogma, I've got my own personal recording of the quest "Off With Its Head."

  10. Uploading the "Off With Its Head" quest from Dragon's Dogma. Took me some time to find good enough export settings on my outdated Premiere Pro software, not too mention "laptop + rendering" doesn't equate to fun times. Expect something later on though!

    1. Waldorf and Statler

      Waldorf and Statler

Ugh I've been dying to play the game but I won't get it till July 15th at the earliest.

  11. I didn't have to read The Great Gatsby in high school, then again I got to read Catcher in the Rye, a book I guess not all high schools look fondly on.
  12. No, it was that for a game where your character can scale anything, and use a lot of in-game object to your advantage, there was one exception. Mind you, a rather "everyone can climb it" exception.
  13. Nothing, you're normal. Considering how much product placement is a common factor in society, it's a normal occurrence to where we can believe that Tony Stark does drink Dr Pepper and he, along with Dr. Banner, would drive in an expensive Acura vehicle.
  14. Oh I would say Cole climbs a lot better than any variant of Ezio. The two problems with climbing in inFAMOUS were 1) climbing down, and 2) chain link fences. inFAMOUS 2 solved those two and you're like a rabid monkey climbing anything in your path. It's gooooooooooooood.
  15. Dragon's Dogma arrived, as well an the email with my promo code. It's a good Tuesday today.

It has a consistent range of 7.0 to 9.0 in reviews. So far, I would have to say the reviews from GameTrailers and Machinima are accurate so far. You have a story, but you're going to care more about the world than any exact character. Menus can be a bit awkward, but you get use to it.

  16. I got this as well today. Store didn't order that many copies, and I know there had to have been other buyers today as I got one of four Blu-ray copies.
  17. Speaking of, The Avengers had quite a bit of product placement much like the other Marvel movies, but most of it was done well. Even the Dr Pepper truck didn't stay on screen that long until it was blown up. HOWEVER, there was one scene that was ridiculous. Which one, and why? Remember when Captain America, Black Widow, and Hawkeye crash land in New York City? There's a scene where they march around a single vehicle, that vehicle being a new Acura where the shot perfectly aligns with the logo on the trunk. You might say it seems a little in your face, but bearable. Yet, that was the entire shot. Even as an advertising student I found it poor. Still, it wasn't anywhere near as awful as anything from the Transformers movies.
  18. What Dean said, but also there was a booklet of some sort sent out to reviewers containing some episodes on a DVD and other material to aid in understanding The Legend of Korra. EDIT: @Ethan, I forgot to mention the whole "non-bender carrier" thing, but technically it should be true. After all, Toph's parents (Lao and Poppy) were non-benders. I don't know how far along a family tree an "odd" element could pop up into a family, but again, airbenders are an exception. While I'm sure there was some mixing amongst the other people (The Promise, Part 1), the air nomads stayed relatively close together, so I doubt that a latent airbender could spring forth from a generational gap. Also, the Fire Nation spent a lot of time and effort in making sure they killed all airbenders. There's a "lost adventure" comic where Admiral Zhao, after trapping Aang, tells him of the Fire Nations traps set for wandering airbenders who escaped the initial genocidal raids on air temples.
  19. You know, we've never seen any family of Fluttershy or Rainbow Dash. In fact, when Rainbow Dash returned to Cloudsdale, Fluttershy was originally going to be her only supporter. Lil' Orphan Dash?
  20. Yeah, though Yakone had a plan for Republic City, it's possible it was for a grander scheme. You have to start somewhere, and Republic City would be a key point much like the takeover of Ba Sing Se. I definitely have a strong feeling that this anti-bender tech is going to eventually be used on non-benders. I mean, we saw it to that effect at the pro-bending stadium. What is there to really stop the higher-ups of the Equalists going, "You know what? You answer to us now!" Speaking of, anyone else notice that particular Equalist fighter (EDIT: I guess he's called "The Lieutenant) gets dominated each time? Like, he fights excellently, but then something out of nowhere comes and knocks him out. I swear, I may have to keep tabs and make a collab for the first season. EDIT: I don't think that would be a thing, Dean. While this has caused a divide in the fanbase, there is a genetic attribute to bending. TLA never bothered to properly address benders and non-benders aside from Sokka's woes. When ToK showed that mixed bender relationships could yield mixed offspring, it gave us a genetic side to bending. A lot of people presumed bending was entirely spiritual, but we have Mako and Bolin. Two brothers, two benders, different element. What does this mean? That you're either born a bender or you're not, and that's the way it is. Everything else is based on spirituality, though there are unique attributes to bender "relationships." i.e. Two airbenders will always have airbender children, no non-benders. This is due to the high spirituality of airbenders. However, Katara and Aang had three children. The first, a water tribe girl who was a waterbender. The second, a water tribe boy who was a non-bender. The last, an air nomad boy.
  21. I've thought before that Amon is working for someone too. I mean, the antagonist changed each Book for TLA. There is that Yakone fellow who was mentioned by Tarrlok, and its suspected that he's the man in the flashbacks. Perhaps both Amon and Tarrlok are working under him to gain control of Republic City? Amon rallies the non-benders and Tarrlok brings the bender forces under his command to be given to Yakone.
  22. Some people have noticed that it looks like the controller is being recharged. Not a big surprise since it would be absolutely and appallingly ridiculous to still rely on AA batteries. I'll give it a shot. After all, the N64 controller looked like a complicated mess, but there was some method to its madness. What bothers me is how the right analog is above the buttons. That will take some getting use to as for years the "adjust camera" stick has been below.
  23. I've notice that too, but I think that goes with the area again. On top of the stadium, she was using firebending because all the water was further away and earthbending would have destroyed the entire structure. While she has three styles of bending, I've been thinking... I'm wondering if she was only taught basic traditional styles of earth and firebending. Katara was her master in waterbending, and she has shown great skill in her native bending art, so I'm sure it's great. Still, I'm wondering if she hasn't really had the opportunities to utilize the other forms of bending. Unlike past Avatars, it seems as though she was protected for her training in a single location. I mean, she was do her firebending training at the Southern Water Tribe area. The Avatar traveling the world and applying his/her bending to real scenarios probably gave them the benefit of versatile techniques and movements. You know, I have my theory for Season 2. Korra is going to be traveling to the different nations to rally support for the then conquered Republic City. She's going to see herself as a failed Avatar, but along the journey she develops as a person much like Aang did on his travels. She'll know the basics of airbending, but Tenzin will have been caught so she relies on her abilities as the Avatar rather than direct force. EDIT: Now, not to mention all of Korra's training has been bender-to-bender. Whenever the Avatar had to face a non-bender threat, 98% of the time it was a cake walk. These Equalist has advanced tech specifically tailored for combating benders. In time I'm sure benders will find weaknesses, but for now it's all a new challenge.
  24. As far as Tenzin's airbending, I think it's more so his style rather than how Aang eventually passed down his teachings to his lone airbending son. It reminds me of firebending in that he was using short direct bursts of air. Tenzin, according to his mother Katara, had always been a bit of a serious boy. Aang was quite the opposite as a child. As far as bendering in ToK, I think it's because benders have been living in a peaceful metropolis that bending doesn't become as escalated. We saw Korra use her typical style, but she almost ended up in jail for all the property damage. I feel bad for earthbenders because whatever they do would be causing damage anywhere in a modern city. Grabbing moisture from the air is a difficult skill, not to mention it depends on the climate. Being in an underground facility probably doesn't yield a significant amount of water. Bloodbending... You know, I'm wondering if only Katara knows of it. Hama was the waterbender who discovered how a waterbender could bend the water in living organisms, and it was only made known to Katara. Keep in mind that bloodbending is only possible during a full moon, the strongest a waterbender could become (much like the sun at noon for firebenders). Anyway, perhaps bloodbending will die with Katara. Though, I've noticed that though Toph discovered metalbending, metalbenders in ToK have advanced it. Toph typically needed to be in close proximity to the metal she would bend, but her daughter Lin can bend metal further and larger. Where I'm getting at is that the more the world advances, someone else will discover bloodbending. I mean, waterbenders themselves must be familiar with plant life containing water in this era.
