  1. Vanquish is easier to Platinum than Rising. I would have had the Gold trophy for beating it on the hardest difficulty, but turns out if you skipped around between Acts, say for getting other trophies, it voids the criteria. Had to be from the very beginning to the very end; no distractions. Never have felt motivated to go through the final boss again. Rising on the other hand... the Silver trophies for not getting hit by the bosses on Hard, I only got half of. That's hard, but there's even harder. If you Platinum it, I bow to you.
  2. Desolation of Smaug I'm actually somewhere in-between on whether this is "Great" or "OK." What it does, it does very well; it's what it does is what slightly bothers me. I'm not very fond of the prospect of this trilogy revolving on a potential war, which is in all truth merely filler. I wouldn't have minded if The Hobbit was a two-part movie, but that's rarely heard of and so we have a trilogy. I'm not fond of what was done with Bard's character, but Smaug I am very happy with. Just, anyone who has read the excellent and easy read that is "The Hobbit," you know Bilbo & Co. are not going to finish him Smaug. Just the nature of this film is a trilogy, so what good would it be to kill off our big, bad dragon? Sauron isn't going to fill that spot: That's The Lord of the Rings. Though, nearly half the theater groaned when Samug didn't die. Was really tempted to yell out, "You know this is a trilogy, right?"
  3. A new year, new problems, but hopefully some new beginnings too. Don't get too crazy out there guys!

Because I want everyone to be able to return home safely. Though if anyone gains an interesting story, like say waking up in a different state with complete strangers and a briefcase of $200,000, I'd like to hear it.

  4. The Stanley Parable It isn't a game that you can beat, but for the 2.5 hours I played of it last night, I would say I got my fill. I was skeptical of the game at first; some games I don't give into the hype. It's $8.99 price on Steam lured me in though, and I'm glad I did play the game. The narrative is the highlight of the game, but your own actions are just as equally memorable. It almost feels like you're playing Easter Egg: The Game where you can discover and experience a lot more if you go off the default path. I wouldn't necessarily say it's the shining example of introspective gaming tropes, something we could put in a textbook and have someone learn about design and choice. It merely puts it out there on the table, something that directly makes you think about your choices. Sometimes it got eerily accurate to a certain play style, though tongue-in-cheek I believe is all the game intends rather than to criticize your own character. Definitely play it, especially for the Door 430 achievement.
  5. Of all the ways I could injure myself at work, I injure myself at home with a door.

On Christmas Eve I opened my car door really hard right into my shin. Hurt like a motherfucker, and I felt like an idiot.

  6. For me, depends on the theater and time frame of the movie. One theater will have assigned seating if you desire to save enough seating ahead of time for a newly released film. Otherwise, it comes down to first come, first serve. The times you'll actually have assigned seats though, and when most people assume they can seat their gigantic family anywhere, that's when you can feel like an asshole. Personally, someone has to be the asshole first before I bring it out in me. Most of the time I'll probably just embarass myself in other situations. But, say someone is going to start blaming me for all their problems, I might get a little sassy. Sorry, I can't whip out my magic wand and locate your missing parts you lost the other day. My ass happens to be fresh out, so it's not coming out of there either.
  7. Not exaggerating here when I say I would hang that on my wall. Maybe a nice 11x17" size to go along with my animation prints.
  8. Began Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition, and I'm kinda thinking I should have got it on PS3 this past summer. I finally resolved the Games for Windows Live issue, though I've only made a local profile as I don't intend on having a LIVE account anytime soon. I know a little about "DSfix," but the whole damn interface is a jumble of controller and keyboard inputs. Played 20 minutes, will probably start over because I practically wasted my Gift when learning the controls. At least the sequel is promised to be properly developed for, if not ported correctly. I mean, once I get my fill, GFWL is uninstalled!
  9. Papers, Please It's a great game, but it drove my dormant OCD up the walls and I can become a rampant perfectionist. Once it got to Day 31, I said screw it and waited for EZIC to do their thing. THAT'S RIGHT! I didn't kill the man in red, but I did all the other actions to help raise EZIC to overthrow the corrput government I worked for to barely get by... at first. Did well enough, though I didn't make it to Class 6 when the moment arrived.
  10. Well, Don't Starve and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons will be free on PS+ for January. If I ever get a PS4, that's where Don't Starve is available. There will also be BioShock Infinite and DmC: Devil May Cry on PS3.

I say this because I was eyeballing the first two games on Steam. With those covered, not sure what else I might get on sale.

Guess I'm not buying Brothers. Thanks for the heads-up.

I got the Steam version as a gift last year, but I was going to go ahead and get the PS4 version of Don't Starve. It's pretty addicting.

  11. Acer 720 Chromebook (I'm using now), Chromecast, AmazonBasics 11.6" laptop sleeve, and two shirts with two ties. I gave my mother a gift card, but she said she rarely shops so she gave it back to me. Just... while it's hard to shop for my parents, she's actually the hardest. My father may not have anything he wants, but he still likes the gifts he receives like the new Blu-ray player I got him. At least there's something I could get with the specific retailer gift card.
  12. Well, there was only one save, and I was definitely at an "import Season 1 save" screen before starting the new episode. Keep in mind I'm on PS3 for The Walking Dead, so maybe there's some odd bugs for the console versions. It still is a Telltale game, and they tend to have those as of late. I remember the PC version having some issues in Season 1 on carrying over choices between episodes.
  13. Left 4 Dead 2 is FREE today on Steam, though honestly I'm probably the only person here who had not yet bought/downloaded the game. Always was an "old hat" game amongst friends, so I never would have had someone to play with. Still, "free" is good enough a reason to play it through.
  14. Merry Christmas. Hasn't felt too festive on my end, but I hope you guys out there are having a blast with family and friends.

  15. I guess I'll talk about Walking Dead.... Again. Just finished Season 2 Episode 1. Telltale didn't hold back on introducing us to a new gamut of woes and emotional turmoil. Probably didn't help that I went back through Episode 5 of the first series, correcting my exploration options and sticking to most of my original path. I say most because I went ahead with strangling Clementine's kidnapper. Yeah, keep mashing the button even when it disappears and you'll actually kill the guy yourself without Clementine's help. Because of that, I went ahead with the "shoot Lee" option as I felt it properly mirrored the prior action. Clementine's dialogue changed even to where she recognized she would have to do the deed, so I saw that as an opening to allow Clementine's character to commit to it. On to actual spoilers Otherwise, a solid game. Telltale added in the Action Button like what's in The Wolf Among Us, and the directional QTEs as well. Not a fan of the "hold down" actions, though that may be because during the "sewing" part it felt iffy. Like I wasn't doing it right, or possibly a bit sensitive. Oh, and for who's survived.
  16. I'll always remember the day I had to choose between N64 and PS1. Had always wanted a PS1 for games like Ape Escape and Spyro, but then I played Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, and Banjo-Kazooie as time passed by without a home console. N64 games to my left, PS1 games to my right. Two demo booths, N64 playing Banjo-Kazooie and PS1 playing Ace Escape. Feeling the controllers, weighing my options between the selection of games... NINTENDO 64
  17. Steam Holiday Sale, stop making my backlog even larger!

  18. Thinking about grabbing The Witcher series. I'm not big on fantasy genre titles, but I have exceptions. Everyone here like it?

It has fantasy elements but it's not like there's magic everywhere. But yes, amazing series.

      P4: Gritty Reboot

Witcher 2 was better than 1 but sometimes I feel the map design is poor. I get lost all the friggin time.

  19. All I know is, if you get the game now, you're paying $20 ($30 later) for a solid game, with all its DLC (Story, VR Missions, and Skins), and new options. Those include viewing all available Codecs and Cutscenes, and a new Chapter Menu option allowing you to play Boss battles. That last one would have been nice on console for some of the game's trophies/achievements.
  20. I had a Deathadder. Only thing I didn't like about it was the Back and Forward buttons were a bit too big, but I believe the 2013 Edition model fixed them. Still, I went with an Anker gaming mouse because 1) $25, and 2) I don't need macros on my mouse.
  21. I got Mirror's Edge last night when it was $5.00. I never finished it on PS3, mainly because it wasn't mine, but rather playing the first portion of the game at a friend's place. Now that I have a competent enough PC, it should do fine.
  22. Like a majority of game soundtracks, when its in the context of the game, it's enjoyable. You'd never find me blasting "Rules of Nature" if I wasn't slicing cyborgs and bots on my television. It's like Anarchy Reigns, another Platinum Game, where the soundtrack is enjoyable when punching and slicing, but there's probably only a single track that you could play outside of the game. At the same time I do have the soundtrack. A STRANGER I REMAIN As for the 1080p resolution stuff, my guess is that they wanted to keep the resolution down to help maintain the frame rate. On PS3 and 360, it's a 720p game, but it runs smooth (at least on my end). When dealing with Blade Mode and the counter system, which does have a learning curve, stuttering and lag is the last thing you want on your plate. I'm sure there is a sizable amount of PC's beefy enough to handle 2K and higher at 60fps, but maybe they "restricted" it because it was too demanding. A bunch of guessing, keep in mind, but you do want this character combat action title to run well. You really do.
  23. Mine's mechanical partially because I wanted a compact keyboard. I never use the numeric keypad, even if it does have applications in gaming. I was looking at the X4 this past summer, just it's too long.
  24. I don't see tons of people jumping towards the Wii U. If anything, it would be because there are established games that are interesting and worth your time whereas the launch lineup for the next-gen has gone dry. If you already have one of the new consoles, is there any other games you wanted this year that weren't already available on another platform (not to mention cheaper)? If you watched Zero Punctuation this week, another view you could have is how Yahtzee (Ben Croshaw) explained that at least the Wii U isn't trying to be a big media hub of social networking, and so forth. You wouldn't believe how many people are still sore about that aspect of the PS4 and Xbone, even when it's practically optional. Then you have the Kinect 2.0... So yeah, I like my Wii U, but I would really like a PS4 sometime soon, but after I would finish Killzone: Shadow Fall and some PSN games... Not sure what else exactly.
  25. I can't imagine there being many options for the port, but you definitely want the game to run smooth. When you're slicing a Metal Gear Ray apart, you want those frames to pour like melted butter. RULES OF NATURE!
