  1. August 20 in US. Looks like with the flying/super jumping stuff they might have added a little Crackdown or Prototype into it.
  2. Here's the official page. New features: Revamped/beefed-up cultural victory Ideologies for your civ (Freedom, Order, or Autocracy) World Congress that will impose sanctions against rogue states, etc International trade routes 9 new civs 2 new scenarios
  3. Wow, what? The reason people don't ask how long a movie is is because they don't need to ask; for the most part movies are fairly consistent length, in the neighborhood of 2 hours. If I went to the theater and bought a ticket expecting a full-length feature film and instead got something 45 minutes long I'd be pissed the same as if I bought a video game for 60 bucks and it was over in 4 hours. So the issue is perception and not if it's actually worth your money or not. Got it. What does that even mean? The only issue with any kind of consumer satisfaction is what they perceive. You're right, I will be unhappy if I perceive it to not be worth my money, because that's the only way to determine if it was worth my money. There's no objective way of determining that. That said, just saying I'll be pissed if the game is short and leaving it at that is an oversimplification. I liked Journey and it was short, but it also didn't cost $60. And obviously a bad game that's 70 hours long isn't worth anything to me, because it's a bad game. The question is how much enjoyment will I get for my money, and if I enjoy the experience of playing the game (as in the moment-to-moment gameplay) then making the game longer will add to the value of the game and making it shorter will detract. As dean likes to point out, people make a false dichotomy between short good games and long bad ones, as if those are the only options. Long good games do exist, and have more value (to me) than short good games, because I get more enjoyment out of them.
  4. They just announced a new expansion, called Brave New World. It's major additions are trade routes and ideology. The thing about trade routes now being disruptable sounds both interesting and like it could be frustrating.
  5. Yeah, that stadium one where they have the direct dirt road and then that big weird loop of thoroughfare way off to the side might be unique, but having a grid with the occasional wide road and mostly smaller ones it's just how you would expect people to design a city.

  7. And now a modder has gotten it running in offline mode. Can't save though.
  8. Yes, I did know that. Unrelated, it just did the thing to me where when I quoted you it added in size tags in the middle of your post for no apparent reason.
  9. Totally agree. Some of my favorite parts of Halo (the first one) are when you come across groups of Covenant fighting the Flood.
  10. Okay, my first reaction upon hearing that that movie is getting a sequel was "I liked Kick Ass, but it doesn't need a sequel." My reaction upon finishing the trailer is "I want to see this."
  11. Apparently a source close to the development but wishing to remain anonymous has told RPS that the servers are unnecessary for single-city play. Obviously those cities are so small you're going to fill it up really quick, but EA could have saved so much negativity by just letting you do it and then saying if you want a deeper game play online.
  12. It just seems like it's enough different that it should have been standalone. Entirely subjective.
  13. Huh, I really thought it was an expandalone, but I just looked and it's not. That's stupid.
  14. There's not really anything in the box. There's the disc, a quick-start guide ("insert the disc to install the game"), a couple of WoL and WoW trials, and a zerg-themed notepad, which is a little nifty but ultimately kind of weird. The box itself is nice looking though.
  15. lmao, I automatically read phrase "requires more minerals" in the Protoss interface voice. Guess I know what race I play as the most...
  16. Conveniently (for me) the client I'm supposed to have court with is in jail in another jurisdiction, so I may not actually have court anyway.
  17. I get why the British care, because it's their people the Argentines are trying to kick out, but I don't get why the fuck the Argentines care after all this time. They're just some goddamn islands in the middle of the South Atlantic, with none of your people on them. I understand there's some oil, but apparently its exploitation has only become feasible in the last decade or so, long after the 1982 invasion. I just don't get it.
  18. Has anyone played this yet? Mine should be arriving later today (I prefer to have discs cause I'm weird like that). I'm stoked. Although I might have court tonight at 6, and if so won't get home till like 7 or 8, in which case
  19. So the SimCity fiasco has gotten bad enough it's now showing up on whatever general news sites my wife browses. She just asked me "did you know people still can't play Sim City V?"

lol, just saying it's beginning to permeate non-gamer society.

BBC covered it too. EA and the Sims series isn't a small thing. COD, Sims n WoW. Those are the biggies.

  20. After a long time, I've finally decided that I actually like the Star Trek franchise as a whole better than Star Wars. That was really hard to admit to myself.
  21. It just occurred to me that, honestly, I think it would bother me a lot less if Youtube/other sites that display them would recognize it and reshape the video player to suit. Without the black bars on the side it wouldn't be nearly so off-putting.
  22. I know why they do it, what I don't get is how you can do that more than once without realizing it's idiotic when viewed on anything other than a phone.
  23. Yeah, I really like Endless Space a lot. One of the cooler 4X battle systems too.
